A leading National retail group partnered with Ubuhle People Solutions to implement a large-scale learnership programme aimed at driving Skills Development and supporting employment opportunities across South Africa.
The client had committed to onboarding 100 unemployed learners into a NQF Level 2 learnership within a W&R distribution environment, with the programme scheduled to begin in July 2025. A key challenge quickly emerged, the client was unable to host learners within their own stores.
Ubuhle responded by leveraging a long-standing client relationship, securing an alternative hosting solution through a network of Power SPAR stores across KwaZulu-Natal. This ensured programme continuity while maintaining full compliance with learnership programme requirements in South Africa.
A Multi-Site Learnership Solution at Scale
Through this structured approach, 100 learners were successfully placed across multiple retail sites in Inanda, KwaMashu, Hluhluwe, Empangeni, and Mtubatuba.
This scalable training solution not only resolved the hosting challenge but also extended the reach of the programme into rural and underserved communities. Access to skills development opportunities in these areas plays a critical role in strengthening workforce development in South Africa.
The rollout was efficiently coordinated across all sites. Our delivery remained consistent, aligned to programme timelines and supported by clear operational oversight. This ensured that training standards were maintained across every location.
Programme Impact and Skills Development Outcomes
The impact of this programme extended beyond completion rates. Learners gained practical workplace experience within a real retail environment and host stores benefited from additional operational support. This case study highlights the value of structured, scalable learnership programmes in delivering both business and socio-economic impact.
Of the 100 learners enrolled in this NQF Level 2 learnership:
76 learners successfully completed the programme
24 learner drop-offs, primarily due to securing alternative employment opportunities
