PURPOSE OF THE INTEGRATED INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

The purpose of this programme is the creation of a pipeline of professional employees to serve business units and to prepare graduates for the VUCA world of work. VUCA stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity – an acronym that originally came from US military jargon and is now often found in management literature.

During the internship, graduates are provided with opportunities to apply what they learned in class in practice. It is expected that students will also be challenged to examine how their attitudes, beliefs, and values impact on the business environment.

From an organisational perspective, an internship provides a unique training experience designed to enhance the professional development and growth of the intern.

OBJECTIVES OF THE INTEGRATED INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

The key objectives of the Integrated Internship Programme are to:

• Assist the intern’s development of employer-valued skills such as teamwork, communication and attention to detail.
• Expose the intern to the business environment and corporate performance expectations.

Interns should be able to demonstrate the following competencies at the end of the internship:

1. Professional behaviour and conduct
2. Awareness of how interpersonal and intrapersonal values and beliefs affect professional relationships
3. Advocacy skills that promote full client access to business services
4. Understanding the working culture and environment related to a specific organisation.
5. Ability to function in interdisciplinary teams

DURATION OF THE INTEGRATED INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

The Integrated Internship Programme will run over a period of 12 months.
