Integrated Internships for Organisations : Organisational Internships is an opportunity provided to young adults who have completed a tertiary qualification, e.g. a Degree, Diploma or Certificate and who would like to gain work experience in a structured environment.
UBUHLE HR understands that the aim of an Internship Programme should be to grow and develop graduates in such a way that they can be absorbed into the business as permanent members of staff. We furthermore understand that the aim of the Internship Programme should also be the preparations of interns to qualify for the flagship organisational leadership programmes.
With this in mind, we have drafted a comprehensive Integrated Internship Programme for your consideration. This structured approach and comprehensive content aims to increase the absorption rate of interns into the business.
PURPOSE OF THE INTEGRATED INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
The purpose of this programme is the creation of a pipeline of professional employees to serve business units and to prepare graduates for the VUCA world of work. VUCA stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity – an acronym that originally came from US military jargon and is now often found in management literature.
TYPES OR AREAS OF INTERNSHIP
During the internship contract period, Interns are exposed to their area of study where they gain valuable practical experience in their field. Organisations usually offer the following type of Integrated Internships:
- Information Technology
- Project Management
- Human Resource
- Supply Chain Management
- Retail Operations
FOCUS OF THE INTEGRATED INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
The major focus of the Integrated Internship Programme is to provide participants with professional skills, abilities, and activities practiced in a corporate and structured environment.
The Integrated Internship Programme assists with career development by providing real work experiences that provide graduates with opportunities to explore their interests and develop professional skills and competencies.
During the internship, graduates are provided with opportunities to apply what they learned in class in practice. It is expected that students will also be challenged to examine how their attitudes, beliefs, and values impact on the business environment.
From an organisational perspective, an internship provides a unique training experience designed to enhance the professional development and growth of the intern.
OBJECTIVES OF THE INTEGRATED INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
The key objectives of the Integrated Internship Programme are to:
- Assist the intern’s development of employer-valued skills such as teamwork, communication and attention to detail.
- Expose the intern to the business environment and corporate performance expectations.
Interns should be able to demonstrate the following competencies at the end of the internship:
- Professional behaviour and conduct
- Awareness of how interpersonal and intrapersonal values and beliefs affect professional relationships
- Advocacy skills that promote full client access to business services
- Understanding the working culture and environment related to a specific organisation.
- Ability to function in interdisciplinary teams
DURATION OF THE INTEGRATED INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
The Integrated Internship Programme will run over a period of 12 months.
